Job Search Tip of the Week #95: Would You Hire A Kwame?

Hello,

What’s in a name? Beyonce, Blue Ivy, Jazz, Bill, Tom or Kwame…do employers care what your name is when they are looking to make a hire?

Tip of the Week: Would You Hire a Kwame?

I came across this article in INC Magazine last week that asked Is Your Name is CEO Worthy?   The first thing that struck me was that names like Kwame (a little bias to this one), Jazz (this one too) or Blue Ivy (likely not looking for work yet) were not on the list.  But David, Mark, John and Robert were.  So does your name really matter to employers?

Maybe, but if it does then that company is likely shortsighted and not a leader in their industry.  Great companies don’t care what your name is they just care that you are able to contribute to their bottom line.  If you communicate why they should hire you on your resume and in the interview room your name will not matter.

Have a great day and an even better week!
