Good Morning,
Have you been watching the Olympics? This is one of my favorite sporting events of all time. It’s exciting to see athletes executing at the highest level after putting so much hard work in. I was fortunate enough to go to the Olympics back in 1996 and saw the 200M finals where Michael Johnson broke the world record for a second time; what an amazing experience.
The years of training and sacrifice that athletes go through is very similar to the dedication you put into growing and developing your career. In both cases however, all that work is for not if you don’t believe you are the best!
Tip of the Week: Believe U Are the Best!
Believing you are the best doesn’t mean that you are or are acting cocky. It means that you have confidence in your ability to do your job in a way that is second to none. Employers want people that believe that they are the best and can clearly articulate (in the interview room) just how good they are.
Your belief in your abilities can be shaken, especially when you are going through a long job search. You have to shake off the job opportunities that you didn’t get and focus on the next interview or opportunity. If you can’t a potential employer will smell that you don’t believe (lack of confident) a mile away.
So how do you believe in you when times get hard? The same way our Olympic athletes do; train harder (know how your experience ties to an employer’s needs), execute your routine (communicate your strengths in the interview), and win the gold medal (close the deal and get that job). Believe U are the best and you will be!
Have a great day and an even better week,
Kwame Dow
